Zhao has a bachelor degree in Architecture from Southeast University Nanjing China and doctor degree in Architecture from Lund Institute of technology Sweden together with over 35 years of experience in Architecture. He is a member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia and is licensed to practice architecture in BC.

 

Zhao gained experience in New York City with the world famous I.M. Pei and Partners working on high-profile projects. He was also the first postdoctoral researcher in architecture in China while teaching architecture program as associate professor in Tongji University in Shanghai in 1990. In 1991, he was invited by the President of American Institute of Architects (AIA) as a visiting professor in University of Nebraska. Zhao worked in several architectural firms in US and Canada, during which time he has completed many types of projects in various sizes with comprehensive experience in all aspects of architectural practice. He has over 35 years of experience encompassing architectural design, consultant coordination, project management and planning. Strategic skills were developed in project coordination, authority approvals, initial project conceptualization through construction administration. In Zhao's 35 years with the practice, he has amassed a broad spectrum of experience, also including computer programming in CAD. Since he started his architect firm in 2008, Zhao XD Architect Ltd. has accomplished many important projects including townhouse developments, commercial buildings, high-end residential houses, industrial buildings, institutional buildings as well as multi-storey apartment building design. He developed many Autolisp programs making the architectural design and drawing production highly efficient. He was appointed as member of Richmond Advisory Design Panel and member of Public Art Commission in City of Richmond for many years.
